BIOGRAPHY

Barbara Luci Carvalho (she/her)

 

Is a multidisciplinary artist and educator in alignment with decolonial and migrant perspectives, especially on theatre and dance. Since 2010 she has worked in Frankfurt am Main in collaboration with the international ensemble antagon TheaterAKTion. Previously, she completed a theatre pedagogy education at the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil and is currently studying the M.A. Choreography and Performance program at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in the Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen. She develops educational and artistic projects with Afro / Brazilian and contemporary dances (Rosangela Silvestre and Vera Passos), circus techniques such as stilts, performance, and physical theatre, mostly in public spaces and non-conventional venues. Her artistic and pedagogical work is on the basis of physical theatre, feminist theatre of the oppressed (Bárbara Santos), theatre anthropology (Julia Varley, Eugenio Barba), butoh dance (Atsushi Takenouchi), body awareness and somatic education (Ph.D. Ciane Fernandes). She worked as an educator at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and the University of Heidelberg. For more than ten years she has been a coordinator of international social and cultural projects, as well as conceptualizing and coordinating artistic projects funded by the European Programs Erasmus plus and Creative Europe on behalf of Protagon e.V. international performing arts.

 

As festival director and curator she has accumulated more than a decade of experience as part of the artistic team of “Sommerwerft - Internationales Theater Festival am Fluss” and for seven years she has been the main organizer and artistic director of the International Womxn's Theatre Festival (linked to the Magdalena Project Network) in Frankfurt am Main.
